A short video if you are new to the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is organized by Modules and in the course we have seven modules (including this Getting Started module) organized like an opera with an Overture, four Acts, and a Coda.
Course Organization
As you can see in the diagram on the right the content is organized within the modules by Scenes, within which are SubScenes. You can click on the SubScene image (on the left) to bring up a larger version of the outline. Each SubScene has its own Summary & Objectives, the Presentation, the video Lecture, a set of ungraded practice quiz questions, and references. You can also click on the Act and Scene images to bring up their respective summaries and objectives.
Learning Materials - the primary learning materials are the presentations (PDF) and lectures (video). Within each SubScene you can click on the word "Presentation" (note that the number of slides is given on the right) which will lead you to the full presentation, which includes the topics for that SubScene as well as all other content such as artworks, film references, interludes, etc. Clicking on the icon gives only the topics and thus will be typically shorter. All references in the PDFs are hyperlinked. The video lectures are organized in the same way: clicking on the word "Lecture" gives the full lecture, and clicking on the icon gives the lecture covering only the topics. The lectures are hosted on the Google cloud so you can enable (or disable) captions as well as speed up or slow down the video.
More Info - At the end of each module you'll find a Glossary of Acronyms (downloadable and clickable), a compendium of Art featured in that module and the full set of hyperlinked References.
Assessments - Finally, at the end of each Scene there are Practice Certification Questions (not graded) and at the end of each Act you will find the Graded Certification Questions. The latter need to be passed with a score of 80% in order to obtain the Certificate.
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which is a regional accreditation body. To earn the certificate, learners must score at least 80% on the Graded Certification Exams. Each of the 30 Certification Exams has its own minimum passing number which average out to 80% over the whole course. You can view your grades here. Upon achieving this, a Certificate of Completion will be automatically emailed to you within 72 hours. To request a printed certificate by mail, please email ced@uta.edu with your full name and course title. And don't hesitate to email me directly at ogan.gurel@uta.edu if you have any questions. I would also be very happy to personally congratulate you.
